Support the Officer in Distress program

When an officer’s in need, you can answer the call.

The Officer in Distress Fund was established to assist officers and their immediate families in the event of a catastrophic event or injury, whether it occurs in or outside the line of duty. The Fund provides direct financial support and helps our officers stay focused on their jobs and perform at their best, rather than worrying about financial or other difficulties. It’s our way of creating a safer Louisville, one officer at a time.

Real Lives. Real Stories.

The Officer in Distress Program has helped numerous LMPD staff members, officers and families – like the family of Officer Nick Rodman. When Officer Rodman was killed on March 28, 2017, after his vehicle was hit by a fleeing suspect’s car at a high rate of speed, the LMPF immediately provided support to his wife, Ashley; their 2-year-old son, Mason; and their five-week-old daughter, Ellie. And when tornadoes significantly damaged the home of Officer Michael Zahradnicek in spring 2024, homeowner’s insurance covered much, but not all, of the cost. Because the LMPF stepped in to close the financial gap, Michael’s family, including his 15-year-old daughter with special needs, now has a safe and happy space.
“I am forever grateful to the Louisville Metro Police Foundation for all they have done and continue to do for our family. The support our family received allowed us to focus on honoring Nick, rather than the financial impact his loss had on our new family of four. The community and LMPF continue to rally around our family. A true testament to the love and appreciation the Louisville community has for Nick’s service and sacrifice.”

“Our family is truly appreciative of the support we received from LMPF when the tornadoes hit. It was a scary time for our family, and the help we received made it possible to be back in our home quickly and safely.”

The Impact
It’s Making

The Officer in Distress Fund has made an enormous impact on our community as it helps those who have sworn to protect us. In fact, the Fund has supported 73 of our officers in the last two years alone.
